The Gibbs function formulation is described in Feistel (2003) and Feistel (2008) (see in the publication list below).
Absolute Salinity, and the Reference Composition Salinity Scale which underlies it, are defined in Millero, Feistel, Wright and McDougall (2008) (see in the publication list below).
Corrections for the varying composition of seawater are discussed in Wright et al., (2011), and a computer algorithm that provides an estimate of the Absolute Salinity of a seawater sample (for given values of Practical Salinity, pressure, longitude and latitude) is described in McDougall et al., (2012) (see in the publication list below).
